MooWP: Ways of Signing On

How to Get There

MooWP is a "place" in cyberspace--its address is it.uwp.edu 7777. The first part of this address is a computer server at UW-Parkside, the numbers after the space are the "port" which is the specific address of the moo. There are three ways to get there from UW-Parkside accounts:

Signing On

If you've typed the right address, you should see (after a brief pause) the welcome screen for MooWP. If you are not a regular "player," you type co guest (which is short for "connect as a guest"). If you are a regular player, you type co, then a space and your name as a player, then another space and your special password as a player. Passwords are "case-sensitive," so that it makes a difference whether you type upper or lower case letters. To leave, by the way, just type @quit

Fixing Problems

  • People signing in via these routes may sometimes find that they can't see what they are typing. On the menu bar at the top of your screen (if there is one) look for Terminal or Options or Preferences. You want to poke around until you find a box labelled "Local Echo"--check that and see if it helps.
  • A common problem is not having one's backspace key work. From UWP and other shell accounts, it may help to type at the shell prompt, "stty" then a space, then "erase" and then hit the backspace key. If that doesn't work, when you get on the moo type HELP BACKSPACE and try some of the suggestions offered there.
